New Delhi, Nov 12: With the ATS investigations into the Malegaon blasts opening a Pandora’s box, the Congress on Wednesday stepped up its attack on the BJP, charging it with being soft on terror.
The ruling party alleged that the BJP, which was talking of “hot pursuit” outside the country, is now reluctant to pursue terrorists even in the country and has become suddenly silent on the issue of terrorism.
Reacting to the statement of BJP president Rajnath Singh in which he accused the Congress-led UPA government of targeting Hindu religious leaders by linking them to incidents of bomb blasts, Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said the statement clearly indicated that the saffron party was “soft” on terror.
“These were the people who were talking of hot pursuit outside the international border. Now they do not even support it inside the country,” Ahmed said, accusing the BJP of having a soft corner for those who have come under the ATS scanner for their role in the Malegaon blast.
“The Sangh Parivar and the BJP are afraid that their secrets would be out,” said Ahmed, adding that in the last 15-20 days, the BJP neither asked for a tough law on terror nor did it accuse the UPA for being soft on terror as it had been doing earlier from all platforms.
The spokesman asked the BJP whether it was still in favor of the special law on terror (GUJCOCA) sent by the Gujarat government to the Centre or had diluted its stand following the revelations of the ATS probing the Malegaon blasts.
“The law should be sent back to Gujarat to get their view now,” Ahmed said, asking, “Are they still concerned about this law as their own people are coming under the scanner?”
